BIO
Carla J. Clay is a painter and ceramic artist with deep roots in Texas. Her background in biology and chemistry shapes her perspective, influencing the way she observes patterns, transformations, and structures in nature. She often incorporates botanical imagery into her work, drawing from both scientific study and symbolic meaning. Her Native American heritage also grounds and inspires her practice, connecting her to traditions that honor continuity while welcoming reinterpretation.

Through bold color, layered textures, and symbolic forms, Clay reimagines cultural and natural influences in fresh, contemporary ways. On canvas, gesture and pigment become tools for exploring rhythm and intensity, while in clay, form and surface offer a tactile, grounding presence.

At the heart of her practice is a desire to spark curiosity and connection. She creates work that holds space for reflection, invites dialogue, and honors the ties between heritage, science, and nature. Recently, she has been developing ceramic pieces that merge symbolic motifs with botanical references, weaving together themes of tradition and transformation.

She is grateful for the opportunity to share her work with others.
